2010
Screw 2009. It's all about the '10.
Well lets see on New Years I went out with a very good friend of mine and we hung out a lounge. Laughed, drank, ate, the whole shebang. It was alot of fun and we've been talking about doing that again real soon.
So here's something a bit different, suggest a book to me. Comic or otherwise.(preferably comic) I will be doing the same for you. And for godsakes make sure it's a book I'll most likely be interested in or I swear to god I will murder you in your dreams. That wasn't too dark right?
Now here are some of my own suggestions:
1.Bakuman- rarely do I mention mangas but I have read a crapload of em. I just recently found this one online but it will come out to the states in print soon enough from what I heard. Or it's out now. Basically it's about a couple of guys who dream of becoming manga artists. That may not sound too interesting to alot of people, but for artists, trust me this rings too close to home quite a few times. It's very interesting and hey this book by the same guy who made Death Note.
2.Death Note- Again one more manga mention and this one is better known. I don't wanna ruin anything about it to anyone who doesn't know anything about it. It's a fun read about a guy who basically becomes a modern day supervillian and soon evolves into a cat and mouse game. Seriously the art alone made me fall in love with it. The anime version is decent too including the live action movies that follows.
3. KickAss- Mark Millar. John Romita Jr. Nuff said. It's brilliant. For those who don't know, it's just about a normal guy who dresses up to become a superhero. Don't wanna spoil anymore because I want you to check it out for yourself. Gonna see the live action movie.
4.Preacher- Excellent book that I am so sad I missed out on but I was kinda young when it came out and didn't appeal to me at the time. Now I've read the whole thang. Garth Ennis is bad ass. Then again alot of his work is. I've read quite a bit of it too. Hard to find but man it's worth it.
5. X-Force(current)- The black ops group of the famous X-Men. If you don't know who the X-Men are. I can't help you. Look it up. Seriously I am in love with both art and stories. Especially the art.
6.Punisher(Max series)- Another longtime Garth Ennis written book. Even stories not written by him are still good though. Frank Castle is not to be fucked with. Evah. Go read it.
7. The Sword- By the fantastic Luna Brothers. Great Book. These guys can really capture strong heroines in pretty much any of their other series but this one is no question , in my opinion, their best work yet. Read all of it.
8.The Walking Dead- Robert Kirkman's epic tale about survivors in a world populated by zombies. It is real dark. Prepare to love alot of characters and seeing them torn down to shreds. Crap this book made me care. And the fact that this is one of the few american comics done in black and white on purpose makes he mood feel even more overwhelming. Again, read it.
9.I know why the caged bird sings- A hah! An actual text layered book . Maya Angelou's swan song basically. Gives you a very vivid, disturbing, funny, tragic, uplifting, and maybe even thoughtful look into her young years. All of it are events that have happened to her. A surprise guilty pleasure for me.
10. One Piece- Very famous manga. What can I say? I fell in love with this manga like I did with Dragonball. The anime is excellent as well. (Never ever watch the american adaptation. I mean it. Look away). I love stories about fantasy, adventure, some romance, drama, and comedy. It's an epic tale and adventure story with almost no ending in sight, but man it wins me over everytime I can't help but like it.
(last one I promise)
11. Gantz- More manga's then I would care to mention. This manga as well as the anime version is my guilty pleasure. Dude. The action, the art, the characters, the over the top violence, and nudity. It's brainless mindless fun to read and to watch. And man just when you think the protagonists are about to get a breather, it captures you with some damn jaw dropping scenes that literally made me shout out loud "Hell Yea!"
I rarely do that when reading something, so that alone should tell you just how entertained I am.
Ok gotta go drop your own comments and suggestions. I've most likely heard of or read it, but I like to hear them anyway. Happy New Year y'all.
