Just hangin' in there

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 6, 2009, 9:07 PM

Wow how about that Halloween huh? Hope everyone had a decent one. Me? Well not much other then the fact that someone did hurl a brick at our kitchen window a few days prior before Halloween so needless to say that kinda ruined the spirit of one of my favorite holiday pastimes. So no I didn't dress up this year..pssh I was planning to dress up as Louis from the game Left 4 dead.
Oh and don't worry about the window. It's in tact. The metal screen luckily protected it. Gave us all quite a scare though. And yea we reported it to the cops already. Isn't it nice to know there are plenty of assholes out there. I got a suspect in mind but I can't prove it so I'll remain mum for now.
Drama aside I' still working on that Haven comic I've been mentioning alot of lately. Basically my part of the process is about finished. And no I won't be posting any more of those comic pages. Then the entire comic would be for free and we just can't have that.Sorry dems the breaks. Right now its going through mostly last minute editorial and lettering process. But the cover layout they have plan looks pretty tight to me. So in other words just wish us luck.
Also be so kind to spread the word at all or even have a peek at an item I have up on sell at ebay: [link]
One of my older comic art pages of, yes of course who else but my ongoing mascot ,SoulStar. Raw pencil and ink on 11x16 pro comic art board and personally signed by yours truly.
It's on sale for about 7 days, so hopefully someone will want it. If not no big loss.
Ok that's all I have to share for now. Go live your life now.

Thoughts on AstroBoy and Where the wild things are

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 25, 2009, 12:37 PM

Ok two totally different, aimed at both children and adults, movies have premiered within the past weeks. First one I saw was Astroboy. Surprisingly very very faithful to the original Japanese material source. If you have no clue what Astroboy is by now then I suggest you go to youtube and find both the original 50's cartoon and the more recent reimagining version released a few years back. But yea I am very surprised to say I enjoyed this movie alot more then I assumed I would. Honestly I was expecting it to be a big fail, but it wasn't. Okay yea they changed some things around like for instance Dr. Tenma never went full blown evil like he did in the original, but hell he had enough incentive to do so if they wanted to go that route. Also Nicholas Cage as the voice of Dr. Tenma was another surprising and very well voice acted part for him. Basically the movie is actually a superhero origin tale that's done in a more PG sense. But it was entertaining enough for me to like it. And very glad they didn't utterly destroy the original source material.

Speaking of sticking to the source material I gotta say something about the really big one. The movie I really wanted to see and finally have. Where the Wild Things Are. The Movie. The movie of the very short children's book. Oh my god. My eyes lit up like Christmas. Saw this baby on the IMAX. That alone was worth it. It's most defintely got the very spirit and imagination of the book itself. Seriously I turned into a little kid just sitting there watching it. It's like revisiting your old childhood and nothing has changed and as a matter of fact has just been sitting there waiting for you to come out and play again. This film is not for kids. Specifcally really little kids, I'm talking like kindergarten or younger. Probabaly first - fourth grade as well. It's way too intelligent for most of them to get it. Now of course I could be wrong about that and might be underestimating the mindset of American youths. But in all seriousness this movie is actually a very clever way to explore the very psychology of a young mind by utilizing each monster as a manifestation of Max's (the main character)personality traits. And man does it hit it on the nail. Now granted there are quite a large number of slow parts that some might find to be boring. However I appreciated the slow parts since they did mix in nicely with the more fast upbeat scenes.
I could go on and on about this movie. Needless to say this film is going to be part of my dvd collection when it comes out. If you haven't seen this yet you need to check it out. Regardless of if you read the book or not. It's just damn beautiful.
Ok shutting up now.

My thoughts on Paranormal Activity

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 22, 2009, 4:58 PM

(warning spoilers galore)
What the F?
Ok I think it's official now, I'm tired of the guerilla style camera action for horror/thriller films (except for Cloverfield, that was bad ass).
Seriously if this movie scares you, then now is the time to grow a pair. Wayyy too much like the Blair Witch project. It too is what I like to call the ' penguin blowjob' It keeps teasing you over and over again and just when you think you're about to get the big pay off..nuthin' happens.
Ok yea there are a few genuinely scary moments here and there. If you're easily scared then this is for you.
Hell half the time throughout the movie I was laughing. Especially the part where Katie is literally being dragged (I'm assumming to hell) by the invisible demon. That made me laugh for several minutes. I'm sick.
If this were an attempt by some film school college students then yes they indeed deserve their A for the semester.
I mean come on they basically go into the 'Exorcist' territory except no Exorcist comes to save the day. I was hoping for at least some kind of phantom imagery of the demon creature at least. But no. Not even that.
Alright I don't wanna sound too harsh. For instance the best parts is basically the last ten minutes of the film when it goes really bat shit crazy so that helped, but most of the time I was rolling my eyes at the stupidity of the characters and not using common sense to just basically leave the home, set that bitch on fire. Hell I was half expecting to see Zuul from ghostbusters make a cameo at some point. Oh and biggest spoiler of all. They end up dead. Yup Katie gets possesed, kills Micah( the boyfriend) and you get to hear more creepy footsteps and I beleive her friend gets either killed by the demon or runs away after seeing Micah's corpse. And you know what? They kinda deserved to die. Mostly Micah since he kept taunting with the demon. Bad move.
Is it worth seeing? Sure I guess. Just make sure you have a scardey cat girl or guy with you if you must see this still. I know I did. That made the movie worth it lol.

41k and I got some things to talk about

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 20, 2009, 2:04 AM

Alright I'm gonna keep this brief because as I write this I am steadily growing sleepier and sleepier by the second.
Currently working on a comic with a small team that we are planning to present to Image comics called Haven. And yes I am being paid to do this. No freebies baby.
If you've been paying any attention at all to my gallery as of late I have included like a crapload of the designs for the book and even a few raw unedited sequential pages.
So far I'm all done with the pencils and working on the coloring process which takes time. I like to sex it up.
No get your mind out of the gutter.Now. Ok? Ok.
And I'm kinda tweeting recently, but I don't really plan to make it a habit, but I just thought you should know. But seriously I'm not gonna tweet useless info like alot of the other tweeters out there. Just shit you need to know. Straight to the point.Mine is right here [link]
I plan to see Where the Wild things are very soon. Lord knows I'm dying to see it.Always did like that book and I'm tired of the seeing the trailers cause I swear they instantly turn me into seven years old and bring a tear to my eye. I am such a wuss.
So any who wish me luck on my endeavers as I will now leave you with a random quote.

40k and I saw zombieland

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 5, 2009, 4:14 PM

Saw the movie Zombieland with a bunch of friends on friday. Defintely one of the most surprisingly best zombie movies I've seen in a long long time. Totally worth the watch. I find myself constantly quoting the rules of zombieland (for those who have seen the film you know precisely what I mean). Seriously go check out even if zombie films aren't your thing. It was certainly a surprise hit to me.
